IMPLEMENTATION OF SWM AS PER STATE
POLICY
1.Action plan for Solid Waste Management:
Action Plan for Solid Waste Management of Haveri city
has already been approved and under this Rs. 20.4 Lakhs has been
released for procurement of Tools and Equipment.
2.andfill site Possession and developmental
activities
CMC, Haveri has purchased 10.0 acres of land for
Landfill site near Gourapur village, about 9 km from city.
Possession has already been taken and is also approved be Karnataka
Pollution Control Board. An estimate for development (at a cost of
about Rs. 19.0 Lakhs) has been prepared/approved and the
construction of Watchman Shed and barbed fencing is under progress
be Nirmiti Kendra, a bore-well is also drilled. Bore-well-pump and
Electric connection to the site will be provided shortly, the
process is under progress. Two pits measuring 50m L X 6m W X 2m H
have already been excavated for Landfill.

4. Door to Door Collection
Primary collection on trial basis was started in two
wards by municipal Pourakarmikas since no SHG is interested at that
time as they are not used to the policy. Response of the citizens at
these two wards is encouraging and slowly we are educating SHGs to
understand the process. Soon we will be holding a meeting with all
the SHG groups to select the interested teams for door to door
collection and all the wards will be covered under this scheme.
5. Secondary Collection & Transportation
Metal containers of dimensions 3 Cum. (six numbers)
and 4.5 Cum (Six numbers) are already received and shortly will be
placed on ten locations as approved in the Action Plan. Periodic
clearance of garbage in these containers and maintenance is proposed
done by Municipal employees.
6. Street Sweeping:
Street Sweeping package has already been tendered and
finalised and in place September, 2007 onwards. Since there is lot
of garbage around the city, currently mass work is being taken by
the contractor on ward-wise basis, soon it will be stabilised to
handle all the wards simultaneously.
7. Information Education and Communication (IEC):
IEC program was delayed to keep in pace with the
procurement of tools and equipment. Now few items have been
purchased and in place we are ready to go for IEC activity. Estimate
for carrying out IEC activity is under progress shortly it will be
tendered on getting approval by DC.
